We love taking pictures of God’s creation. During the fall, we visited the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge in Wisconsin, where nearly-extinct whooping cranes are raised as chicks and then taught to follow ultra-light aircraft. This past October, fourteen adolescent “whoopers” left Necedah following four ultra-lights to Florida to imprint the route on their brains. In the Spring they will return to Wisconsin all on their own. On Thursday morning, January 22, we drove to Dunnellon, Florida to watch the four Operation Mobilization ultra-light trikes and a Cessna complete the final leg as the birds arrived at the Chassahowitzka NWR, their winter home. Their black-fringed wing tips as they flew in the blue sky were a stunning sight.

Readers of Confirming Justice will recall FBI Agent Griff Topping is a pilot who enjoys flying a Cessna on his time off. Well, when the Operation Mobilization crew completed their flight and returned to the Dunnellon airport, we thought we saw Griff Topping standing near a Cessna and talking with other volunteers. Could it be that his vacation time spent helping preserve whooping cranes might appear in a future book? Read more about the whooping crane program at www.operationmigration.org.

We are enjoying the moderate temperatures in Florida where we are beginning to outline our next thriller. This is the time we could use input from you, our readers.
