It seemed like a long summer without our team lead by Mark Harmon, who plays NCIS agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Indeed, it was a long summer of simmering tensions around the world. Anticipating tonight’s episode, we wondered what tough and tender issues the NCIS writers might tackle. We had heard rumors of a Russian bad guy. And the drama leapt out at us from the screen putting us at the edge of our seats. Who was after Gibbs and McGee twenty kilometers, “twenty klicks” from Finland?
This episode explodes with a traitor within the walls of NCIS. Abby is called on to evaluate what kind of SAM (Surface to Air Missile) shot down the helicopter carrying Gibbs and McGee out of Russia with Kevin Hussein, the IT guy with a head full of Navy secrets. The question is, who or what are the Russians after? And what does Hussein know that he is not telling Gibbs? Bishop reaches out to NSA, her former agency, and where her husband works, hinting that we’ll learn more about him in future shows.
We expect the drama involving Sergei, the Russian, will continue throughout the season. In real life, the NCIS IT Kevin Hussein would be looked at real hard when considered for the requisite Top Secret security clearance. With an uncle who was a professor at a Russian University, he’d get twice the scrutiny. Could it have been a technical flaw? We were relieved to see Gibbs and McGee making it home. Were you all surprised to discover Gibbs has another boat in the making in his basement? Supposedly it’s the life size boat that is a replicate of a model boat that Gibb’s mother had. David always wonders how Gibbs gets these boats out of his basement, once completed. Will we ever find out? Probably not.
We watched the New Orleans debut and enjoyed the investigative/search scenes. Ducky made a guest appearance via teleconference. Now we will really need to discipline ourselves if we are to get this blog written each week, and write our next suspense novel.
We do have a new thriller coming out, so watch for more details about Embers of Courage, to be released on December 3rd.
Let us know what you enjoyed about tonight’s show!
Be Blessed, Diane and David
Cool thanks.
Will you two be watching NCIS: New Orleans?
Time permitting, we will tape and watch the new show from New Orleans. We won’t try to comment on the shows. Last night’s episode was good. We like the cast.
Just wondering if I saw this wrong. Neither Tim nor Dinoso wanted to go with Gibbs, so they did Rock, Paper, Scissors. I thought Tim won, with paper; so why did he go instead of Tony?
Good eye. We noticed that too. We suspect that the writers were so coy, that we didn’t catch the subtlety. It’s possible they both wanted to go with Gibbs, but both were pretending to lack interest.
I did not watch a lot of the reruns this summer, so was really looking forward to the return of NCIS. I liked the twists. I figured there would be something else in the body bag, but the ‘chip’ in the body was a better surprise. Then there was that moment when both Gibbs and the Russian had each other in their sights. You knew Gibbs would not get killed, but you still did not know what would happen. Bishop was more animated, but still not up to par.
I also wonder how he gets the boats out.
I taped NCIS New Orleans and watched it on Wednesday evening. I like the cast, but I am still going to have to try not to make comparisons.
Looking forward to the new book. See you around. Lorna
Lorna: We agree. Ziva set the bar pretty high for Bishop. We wonder if she’ll ever be accepted by viewers
I, too, liked the season opener, although, it seemed to move rather slowly at times. I rather like Bishop. Maybe because I, too, am a floor or desk sitter, whenever possible. Bishop is so different from Ziva & adds a psychological dimension that was not used previously to the extent Bishop uses it.
Cheryl: Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It’s said that the producer is introducing Bishop’s husband into the episodes. Maybe that will help define her and earn her some fans.
Ok, I’m just now catching up, since my Tuesday night classes interfere with watching NCIS, but I have made a few observations I expected Gibbs:
1. To take out Sergei and his team at the camp fire;
2. Or, at least take out the guy guarding the vehicle and then take the vehicle; after all, he was traveling with an injured man; and
3. Would never let Tony manhandle him as he did in that last scene.
Did NCIS have a change in writers and/or producers?
On a side note: I think Bishop is out-of-place on Gibbs team. Her debut as a super woman profiler, my immediate thought was, “With her around, what do they need with the rest of the team, she can do it all with just her mind.” Getting rid of Ziva was a bad idea.
Mary. Welcome back to the world of the living. You ask an interesting question about the writers. Although we’ve not done the research to know, we suspect some of the writer’s are being given knew assignments to write for NCIS NO, since Mark Harmon is the executive producer of the new show. He wants it to succeed and they’ve just announced that it will be for a full season. It is the most watched of this season’s new shows, with an audience of about 18 million.
NCIS rarely misses and this is not different. An amazing Ep #1, This gives us a ton of arc stories for the rest of the year. I miss Ziva. She was a force of nature. I shall try to like Bishop. When are you two coming back to Florida. Let me know. Keep safe.
Hi Blythe. Our events schedule to promote our next book, “Embers of Courage” will appear on this blog, soon.
