It seemed like a long summer without our NCIS team being led by Mark Harmon, who plays NCIS agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Indeed, it was a long summer of simmering tensions around the world. Last week’s show left us wondering about the future for the main NCIS. What a difference a week can make.
This week Gibbs and his team of special agents were back to normal. Well maybe not Tony. David joked they were all back on their meds. Tony acted super mellow and was much more relaxed than usual, causing McGee and Bishop to wonder if maybe he was in love. This episode tackled the difficult subject of Americans going over to the dark side. The plot and acting had everything we enjoy in an episode, beginning with Navy SEALS rescuing an American orphanage worker from terrorists. The writing was excellent and realistic.
FBI Agent Tobias Fornell returned with all the understated grief you would expect of him after his late ex-wife Diane was killed last week in the company of Gibbs, her other ex-husband. If you’re not very familiar with this series, you may be confused by that sentence. Gibbs and Fornell became friends after their mutual divorces from Diane. Tonight we learned Tobias and Diane planned to remarry. Too bad the writers ended their rekindled relationship. There are too many of the show’s cast without mates. It was a touching moment when Leon Vance invited Fornell to talk if he needed a listening ear as the two men had much in common. Radical terrorists murdered both of their loved ones, leaving children without a mother. We both noticed Tony and McGee interview of a young twenty-two-year-old dog groomer lacked appropriate follow-up. She said she’d broken up with their suspect because she didn’t approve of the suspect’s “radical” friends. Tony terminated the interview without identifying those friends. Even the rookie Bishop would have recognized them as possible suspects.
NCIS New Orleans aired a new episode entitled, “The Abyss.” It was excellent with CGIS agent Abigail Borin bringing her savvy and “old school” investigative techniques to the show. In “The Abyss” an Admiral’s daughter is suspected of killing her research team so the Coast Guard is brought in to help solve the case. It was interesting to learn more about Agent LaSalle’s missing brother. We are pleased to announce that this spin-off has been renewed for Season 2.
We’d like to know what you think.
Be Blessed, Diane and David Munson
Yep, this one made up for last week. Much more enjoyable. Liked David’s ‘back on their meds’ comment. Good to see a return of Vance. Seems like every character got a chance at some nice moments. It felt more of an ensemble.
It is strange Pride knows Borin and vice versa but the Abyss beat this main NCIS episode hands down
Interesting comment… that Pride knew Borin. In the real world of NCIS-USCG relationships, agent in different offices could know each other. Especially in the case of USCG. They’re limited number of Special Agents would require that they travel to the locations where they are needed to investigate. An Agent like Borin would probably have visit New Orleans, Quantico, and many other offices. In those cases, an agent like Borin be in contact with NCIS, as well as FBI, DEA, ATF, etc. When I (Dave) saw Borin and Pride working together, I just assumed they had previously worked together.
Yeah but Pride knows so many people–Gibbs, Fornell and now Borin. Expected them to meet for the first time.
We thought it was a good show with one exception. They could have left the whole “left your handcuffs behind” scene out. It did not enhance the show in any way. And yes, the dog groomer interview was incomplete. I thought something was left on the cutting room floor though — to me it felt like something was edited out and overlooked in final review.
Agreed about the handcuffs. The gag was already used in Flesh and Blood (in the Prince’s hotel room) as well as in Toxic when Tony pulled furry handcuffs out of his desk as he was spring cleaning.
I fail to see the love chemistry between Tony and Keats (the ATF agent). It’s a weak unconnected side story. Was hoping for Emily Fornell to appear and possibly soon. I like her.
I was sorry to see that Diane Gibbs Fornell was killed in the last episode. Just to see how Gibbs’ and Fornell’s relationship would change with the remarriage. Oh well.
This episode was definitely better than the previous week. Thought the interview with the dog groomer was stilted. Tony’s reaction to her was stressed. He ended it to quick, like she had something on him? Hopefully when we return to new episodes we will see last week was just a bad glitch with the writers.
I didn’t read it as the dog groomer had anything on him. I thought it was more that she was hitting on him, not giving up and he wasn’t interested, knew where it was going and just trying to get away from the awkwardness of her obviousness as quickly as possible.
Ohhh Chris. You are soooo right! The dog groomer was hitting on Tony. That’s what was so disappointing about his failure to identify her ex-boyfriend’s terrorist friends. Any good agent would recognize her come-on and take advantage of it to schmooze her out of more info. It was just a bad script writing hiccup, but the rest of the show delivered.
