What better way for a TV series looking to prop up it’s dropping ratings than to have two of the characters get married on TV? It happened in Happy Days when Joanie and Chachi were married on TV. A famous wedding happened on General Hospital in 1981. Luke and Laura married on the show and that episode scored 31 million viewers. When Phoebe and Mike were married to a national audience on Friends, all the other cast members played a part in the wedding and it took place outside during a show storm. It was so cold the bride joked that she would be ‘her something blue.’ Sound familiar? Isn’t it interesting that is the same as the name of tonight’s episode of NCIS?
In featuring Tim McGee and Delilah Fielding in a wedding to close out the season, it seems the writers chose a lightweight “who-done-it”, which wouldn’t overshadow the nuptials. So a prank to embarrass a Navy ship’s commander goes completely awry resulting in the death of one of the food service petty officers aboard ship. The attempted cover-up requires just enough investigation to permit the wedding to occur in the allotted forty minutes of the TV show, minus advertisements. The clues and workmanship of Gibbs’ team is just in time to get a confession and still allow time for the NCIS team to fulfill their various roles in the bridal party.
McGee was his usual nervous self. Gibbs was given a chance to shine, when during a private conversation with Tim, he presented Tim with a watch given to Jethro his father. Tim was surprised and felt Gibbs should not part with such a valued memento. Don’t you think it was touching? Gibbs, who has no son, gives his valued watch to Tim McGee one of his most hardworking and loyal team members. This scene ranks as one of the best all season.
Next Tuesday is the final episode for this season. Are you all going to watch the exciting conclusion?
Be Blessed, Diane and David Munson
A rather peculiar show at best. I remember them doing the same thing with Dr. Jimmy and his wife, first a failed adoption then she gets pregnant, nothing from Jimmy’s wife or child since. I look at this as more of a partial prep entry into the next season which has been confirmed. We do know that 85 year old Ducky (Ilya) will be retiring, Jimmy becoming a Dr. was no coincidence. Losing “Ducky” on top of Denoso may be weighing a little heavy towards the possibility of future success, at least to the extent of the past. I have not yet bonded with the three new characters on the program and am doubtful I will. They need characters with less emotional baggage. this is not days of our live folks. Watched NCIS New Orleans. What a total scripted disaster. the quality of Network TV writers is trash. Back to HGTV, and the Science Channel and the cooking channel.
Thanks for your comment Louis. We wonder too, why the show added three characters to replace Tony. It seems as though there is not enough time to develop that many characters and ensure fan support for each.
I agree with Louis’s comment on not bonding with the new characters & wondering why three were needed replace Tony. I was not happy when Tim & Delilah decided to move in together. Then, she gets pregnant, so they push the wedding date up. The only thing that would have been worse would be to have killed off Delilah. I understand that relationships are strained with the kind of work the team does. However, the Vance’s were making it work until they killed off the wife. Bishop gets divorced. If Delilah had died, I probably would have stopped watching the series. Now, my last hope is with David McCallum leaving, the writers stop giving Brian Dietzen such idiotic lines! We’ll see. Season 15 may be the last if there aren’t some major changes.
Ms. Hasson.
I will be brief. We are on the same page and to and extent I also believe that Diane and David are as well. So sad
I like how Gibbs always seems one step ahead; like a true parent. He wore the watch because he had a feeling, but it was also inscribed with the phrase he used while waiting with Tim at the hospital. That’s what touched me most.
