NEVER DO THIS!!!

You’ve heard it said, “She’s more than just a pretty face.” Well, the Two ExFeds New Wrap is more than just an NCIS blog. Because we write Christian suspense novels, we might occasionally mention our book, but we will also comment on new items of interest or matters of law and justice since that was so much of our earlier lives. Since Dave was an NCIS agent prior to his years as an undercover Federal drug agent with DEA, we’ve been critiquing the NCIS weekly show, but we’ve neglected other news and items of interest.

That’s about to change. We will make an effort to bring you items that will help you and your loved ones to be safer and happier in this sometimes dangerous world. I (Dave) believe that there are many others like me who mow their own lawn and/or have boats and chain saws for which they occasionally need gasoline. So many times I have gone to the gas station and pumped gas into my red plastic containers. Did you know that unless you remove the container from your vehicle and place it firmly on the ground, you are in danger of starting a fire caused by static electricity?

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has warned that fires have spontaneously ignited when persons attempted to fill portable gasoline containers (gas cans) in the backs of pickup trucks equipped with plastic bed liners or in cars with carpeted surfaces.

This video from You Tube will show you how such a fire was started by static electricity. Now that you are convinced, here are some suggestions that you should follow and share with all your friends and family:

1. Place the approved gas can on the ground near the gas pump.

2. Insert the gas pump nozzle into the gas can, making sure that the nozzle has direct contact with the edge of the gas can opening. This will reduce static electricity buildup.

3. Pump the gas into the gas can, filling it 95 percent full. Allowing a small amount of empty space within the gas can will give the liquid room to expand, if necessary.

We’re not experts, and this is meant to raise awareness in this situation. So many times I, (Diane) have observed David telling other men at the gas station, not to pump gas into the container on the back of the truck bed. Sometimes they don’t listen so we drive off quickly. When you watch the video, you’ll see why. So guys and gals, be careful!

Be Blessed, Diane and David Munson
